PureNRG Biography
pureNRG’s mission is to entertain, educate and promote Christian values for
young people by using wholesome, uplifting lyrics, along with music and dance,
in order to provide a positive role model. Pure, positive energy will be the
driving force of our group and our message will help bridge the gap between
youths and adults. Our purpose is to teach kids to be Godly and provide a
positive “other” choice for our age group. We hope our music will cross all
boundaries and that it is so powerful the world can’t help but notice.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an
example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.”
– 1 Timothy 4:12
Over the years, certain names have become synonymous
with great family entertainment. From the Mickey Mouse Club to Sesame Street to
High School Musical, some names immediately bring to mind quality entertainment
that is safe and enjoyable for everyone in front of the TV or in the mini-van.
Fervent Records’ group pureNRG is destined to take its place among those family
favorites.
pureNRG is an appropriate moniker to describe Jordan Yates,
14, Carolyne Myers, 11, and Caroline Williams, 12. The young group’s boundless
energy and unbridled talent is rapidly earning them an enthusiastic legion of
fans. At the same time, the young artists display a level of professionalism and
a dedicated work ethic that is earning them the respect of seasoned pros in the
competitive entertainment field.
“I don’t think anyone would get bored
during a concert,” says Caroline with a smile. “I think we bring a lot of fun
and a lot of entertainment.”
They also bring a lot of experience for a
troupe so young. Each member has been competing on the national dance circuit
since they could barely walk, and have long been involved in church, attending
youth activities and going on mission trips. They began working together as
pureNRG three years ago. “I was really excited and I really wanted to go tell
everybody, but I didn’t want to brag,” says Carolyne, recalling how it felt when
she, Jordan and Caroline found out they’d been selected for the group.
Working with renowned manager Norman Miller (Casting Crowns, Nichole
Nordeman, Jump5), the young artists began preparing for their Fervent Records
debut. Each brings their own set of influences and musical tastes to pureNRG. “I
always have loved Shania Twain,” says Carolyne. “When I was six, I used to go
around my house singing ‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman.’ I watched all the videos. I
really look up to her and I love Miley Cyrus. I love her music.”
“I
pretty much listen to about anything,” adds Jordan. “I like a lot of the old
time rock and roll, Beatles and that stuff. It’s really cool.”
Caroline
says she listens to a variety of music, but among her current favorites are
Kelly Clarkson and the soundtrack from the Broadway show “Wicked.” “I think
Kelly Clarkson is amazing because she came out of nowhere and she has this great
voice,” says the petite songstress. “And I like to listen to ‘Wicked’ because I
think it’s amazing. I saw the musical in New York.”
When it came time to
craft their debut album, the threesome began working with two of Nashville’s
most acclaimed producers— Rob Hawkins (Jackson Waters) and Mark Hammond (Cheetah
Girls, Everlife, Ashley Tisdale). “I want our albums to be fun to listen to –
not only kids, but for them and their parents.”
In concert, pureNRG
delivers a high-octane stage show that demonstrates each member’s vocal
abilities as well as their athleticism. A pureNRG performance combines
incredible dance routines and jaw-dropping gymnastics that delight audiences of
all ages.
That sense of effervescent fun permeates each track on the
group’s debut disc. Even seasoned artists sometimes have difficulty capturing
the intensity of their stage show on CD, but Jordan, Caroline and Carolyne,
attacked the studio process with the same energy and enthusiasm they bring to
the stage.
“I jumped up and down and would shake around,” says Caroline
of revving up in the studio for the uptempo numbers. “I clapped my hands and
then I’d do it again.”
Carolyne had her own method. “Sometimes I’d just
hold onto the mic, close my eyes and act like I was at a concert singing to
everybody. That was really fun.”
The result is a collection of engaging
pop songs that make it impossible to sit still. From the bouncy opening track
“360” to their cover of the spirited 80’s classic “Footloose,” pureNRG delivers
an infectious pop sound that is fresh and innovative in its musicality and
delightfully unpretentious in its delivery.
“I love ‘Footloose’ because
it’s so high energy,” says Carolyne. “It was so much fun to record that one. I
also love ‘When I Get To Heaven.’ That’s one of my mom’s favorite ones. It has
such a good message.” Other group favorites include “Summertime,” “Someday,” and
“What If,” a song with an upbeat, wide-eyed message that anything is possible.
Though they are young, the members of pureNRG are serious about reaching
their peers and are taking the opportunity to be role models very seriously.
“Even though we are young, we still want to spread a positive message to other
kids,” says Caroline.
The other group members agree, and Jordan adds,
“Most kids our age don’t get to do what we do. We feel really blessed,” he says.
“It is all well worth it. If we can make a difference in someone’s life, then
that’s what we need to be doing.” From their ideal, ‘tween’ position to their
High School Musical-hungry audience, it’s obvious that pureNRG’s world really is
a stage; and with their talented vocals and power-packed dance moves, they are
truly ready to take that world by storm. Whether it’s singing, dancing or a
combination of the two, it’s clear that this group has nothing but pureNRG.
